“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” 1 John 4:16
God is love. And because that’s who God is, that’s who we are to also be. Why? Because we’re made in His image (Genesis 1:27).
Sounds pretty simple, right? God is love and, because we are made in His image, we are to also be love. We’re to be that reflection of Him towards others. We’re to pour out His love into the lives of those we surround ourselves with. That is simply what we are called to do. Love God first and, just as important, love others (Mark 12:30-31).
Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound as easy as it’s seems. I think we can all agree that we’ve heard this message countless times and have thought to ourselves “I can do that. I’m going to start tomorrow”. And tomorrow comes. Kids throw a fit, coworkers are being nasty, your boss is giving you a hard time, someone flipped you off while you were driving – fill in the blank. Whatever it may be, something has always gotten in the way of us being love. Why? Because we stopped choosing to be love, in spite of what may be going on. We let our feelings dictate who we are, the actions we have, the words we say, and we just let those things pass and blame others along the way.
You can be love if you choose to be love. Stop letting your feelings determine whether or not you will show love towards others.
And, lets be real, choosing to be love isn’t so easy either. Because that means we have to choose to be patient, kind, not envious, not boastful, not proud…and the list goes on and on (1 Corinthians 13:8-13).
Dang. Being love is hard. Not only are we to pour out love to others, but we’re to also be an example of love in all we do? We don’t only choose to love others, but we also choose to have the attributes of love.
But, fear not! It’s easier to be love when we first love the One who is love. You see, once we love God first and foremost, we are then able to step into the other half of His command – to be love to our neighbors. Why? Because we’re then receiving His love to give to others. It’s easier to pour out when you’re being poured into.
So, my friend, choose to be love. First by loving God, then by loving those you are surrounded by – no matter how you may feel.
be. love

She was born and raised in a Christian home and spent her days as a little girl singing songs, playing around on the piano, and drawing with her crayons. After years of hardships and trials, Chloee found escape in her music and writing her own lyrics. She pursued a Worship Leader certificate at Bethel Music’s Worship School. When she completed her course, she led worship with her sister, Aliseea, at a small youth group they were both currently serving in. After they both stepped down from that role and during 2020’s pandemic, Chloee started her own podcast called W.O.W. She now finds joy in speaking God’s Word, singing about it occasionally with her sister, and creating digital designs to point others back to God and His Word. When Chloee isn’t designing or podcasting, she spends quality time with her family by having game nights, a movie marathon, or even jamming out to some worship songs.
